Course Overview

The HND in Engineering offers a dynamic learning experience taught by industry professionals who are experts in their field.

Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on developing analytical skills and understanding design concepts relevant to the engineering sector.

Whether aspiring to become engineering technicians or engineers, graduates of the HND program are equipped with the skills, behaviours and expertise required to excel in the field of engineering.

The aim of the course is to provide skills, knowledge and behaviours for Technician Engineers to enable them to progress in industry.

As part of this course, you will be encouraged to develop high levels analytical skills linked to the sector along with the development and understanding of design concepts.

The course has been developed to ensure that your education is relevant and up-to-date.

Emphasising the importance of work-based experience, you will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge to existing companies and gain valuable skills that will inform your future practice.  

Units studied may include: Professional Engineering Management, Lean Manufacturing, Further Mathematics and a Research Project.

If you’re looking accelerate your career and have a passion for engineering, then this could be the course for you.  Through the study of the engineering core units you will develop the essential and fundamental knowledge, skills and behaviours that all engineers require - irrespective of future specialism - and by selecting a set of focused study units you will be able to build a body of specialist knowledge, skils and behaviours needed to be successful in a range of careers in engineering at the Technician or Engineer level.

The HND is equivalent to the second year at university and is a recognised Level 5 qualification. On successful completion of the HND, students could then go on to 'top-up' to a Bachelors degree at University.  Alternatively you can progress directly into enployment within the engineering sector.

We look forward to welcoming learners with passion, dedication and commitment to learning about computing at a higher level.  The HNC Engineering programme is intended for the students who plan to enter into employment in the engineering industry. Suitable students are likely to have passed the Level 4 HNC qualification in Engineering. All prospective students will be interviewed and assessed individually.
