Course Overview

The Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Construction Management for England (Construction Site Supervisor pathway) develops students as professional, self-reflecting individuals who are able to meet the demands of employers in the rapidly evolving construction sector and the skills and knowledge to adapt in a constantly changing world.

On this course you will develop your knowledge, understanding and skills, whilst providing an experience of the construction sector that prepares you for further study or employment. Alongside the development of your skills and knowledge, you will also develop practical skills in research, independent study, and directed study. You will also engage in work-based learning activities to develop professional behaviours and transferable skills.

The course is designed to provide a specialist vocational programme, linked to professional body requirements and National Occupational Standards. It offers a strong, sector-related emphasis on practical skills development alongside the development of requisite knowledge and understanding.

The qualification provides a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required in the sector and their national recognition by employers allows direct progression to employment. 

Students will gain a nationally recognised and highly respected higher education qualification in construction which can lead to employment or career enhancement ,

Students who successfully complete this programme will be able to progress onto a Level 5 Higher National Diploma or a full degree course in a construction management field.

This HNC programme is intended for students who are in, or plan to enter into employment in the construction industry. Suitable students are likely to hold a minimum of a Level 3 qualification in construction or an equivalent qualification. The department will also consider relevant industrial experience aligned with the level of the programme.
